I originally built the Blue Destiny back in 2004. Over the years, however, pieces started falling off, and the paint began to flake. So, I decided it was time to dismantle, strip, and give the model a full refurbishment and upgrade.
As I embarked on the refurbishment, I aimed to retain some of the key details that made the original project a success in my eyes, while also bringing it up to the standards of my latest work. I began the upgrades with the shoulders, where I notched out 1mm of resin from the top to add more intricate details. I also added circular molds to the support bars for an enhanced look.
On the head, I grafted front vents onto the cheek armor and added strip detailing. Additional strip details and panel lines were introduced to the front visor, giving it a more refined appearance. An antenna, crafted from a watch spring bar, was attached to the side of the head, further enhancing its character.
For the chest, I removed 3mm of resin from the middle seam under the arms and added detailed side and top panels made from styrene strip and sheet. The neck area also received small enhancements. Metal details were incorporated into both the top and bottom chest cannons. The torso was completely re-sculpted from the original resin piece and clad entirely in styrene sheet, with detailed raised styrene and panel lines. The back features a mechanical spine detail, adding depth to the design.
Strapping details and new panel lines were added to the arms, along with entirely new wrist mounts for the hands. The original hands were replaced with static pose Kotobukiya hands, and the hand armor was upgraded with reinforced knuckles. The skirts were enhanced with styrene sheet cladding and additional panel lines, while the back skirt was detailed with small metal elements.
The upper legs were widened by 1mm each, with new panel lines and latch details added, along with new strapping on both the front and back of the legs. The lower leg armor was reshaped in places for a better fit and overall look. I added styrene details to the knee, shin, calf, and outer side areas, while the side thruster vents were semi-scratch built using Kotobukiya vents and styrene sheet.
The original feet were replaced with stock plastic feet, then clad in plastic sheet for a polished finish. The backpack also received metal details on the sides and back, along with additional styrene and Kotobukiya enhancements.
The muzzle of the gun was cut off and replaced with a new scratch-built muzzle made from styrene tube and Kotobukiya round molds. I also added small strip details to each of the three magazines. The shield body was completely scratch-built from styrene sheet and strip, with Kotobukiya parts and salvaged components from another shield incorporated into the design.
The entire piece was primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000. The blue color used is the same as the original from when I first built the model, while all other colors are from Mr. Color. The decals are a mix of custom-made and Hi-Q decals.
